Wataa Slots

Overall, we found Wataa Slots to be a hilariously racist slot that uses a reskinned game as an excuse to pack on a hefty jackpot and a lot of fun. Featuring many a thing that you have likely seen elsewhere, this game is fun and funny because of how bold it is with the way they have taken on the genre of ninja themed games. We enjoyed our time with it, and not only because we were laughing at it and the premise. It plays well, and pays well, making it good on the fronts that matter. Where it is not, it is bad like a good B movie.

Premise

As you’d never guess because no one has ever written it out phonetically, the premise of Wataa Slots is ninjas. You only realize this after starting it up and noticing that Wataa is supposed to be a Japanese sound effect of what they say when they do ninja moves. It is all hilarity from there, seeing a Western take on an Asian genre that becomes an unintentional spoof of what may have otherwise been an entirely mundane slot that held no one’s interest for more than a minute.

Presentation

The graphics in Wataa Slots are not that great. Being a reskin of other games, they did not put too much time into the game here. Even the suits of playing cards to match are taken from other games, and forwent the easy opportunity to use some neat looking Kanji here that would have been just as easy to make from a font. The illustrations themselves outside of that leave a lot to be desired as well, but have the heart of a 12 year old white kid that thinks he is an ancient Japanese ninja, making for a fun experience. They even mish-mashed Kung Fu with Ninjas, making it even funnier in ways we are not entirely sure are intentional.

Mechanics

We found gameplay in Wataa Slots to be fairly standard, but has some added quirks that make it interesting and inventive. The first is a mini game where you choose between Trevor and Charlie — the most Asian names on the planet — for how you would like to receive free spins. Aside from that, there are also multiple jackpots, and bets go from a penny to $10, making this an oddly high rolling game given the presentation and expectations that go along with that. With 5 reels and 25 pay lines, it is otherwise about standard for the genre.

+ Fun ninja and Asian theme + Hilariously Asian in the same way little Western kids think they are Asian after watching an episode of Naruto + Good jackpots + Mini games

- Reskin - Could have picked a bitter sound effect that’d make more sense

Who is this Game For?

This game is suitable for players of all types. In particular, it should appeal to:

* Players new to digital slots and looking for something relatively accessible * Moderate intensity players that have gotten their feet plenty wet in the online slots world and are looking for something a little more involved * Jaded slot vets * People that mostly want to win a bunch of money playing digital slot games * Players looking for slot nostalgia for the similarities and differences this slot has to other games * People more used to normal video games that are looking to get their feet wet in the world of online slots

Who is the Game NOT For?

Although we enjoy this slot, it is not for everybody. In particular, it may not be your cup of tea if this describes you in any fashion:

* People afraid of ninjas * Averse to winning money online * Looking for something truly innovative in the genre * You find the theme in any way offputting * Throwing star allergy holders

Is it Buggy?

In the time we spent playing this game, we did not encounter any bugs, problems, or errors. The same cannot be said for all slots of this genre, so we commend the developers for a job well done on that. We also encountered no issues in processing winnings or payments, and everything ran very smooth just like you would expect across many varied devices in a variety of ecosystems and operating systems.

Conclusion

The bottom line is that Wataa Slots is a solid game despite all the fun we had poking holes in it. Despite being a reskin, it still has a lot to offer, and will not disappoint anyone that is primarily interested in slots for their monetary potential. Featuring many jackpots, free spins, and an odd mix of Kung Fu and ninja, this is a game like no other, for better or worse. Despite some laziness around the edges, we can recommend giving it a try, if only to have a good laugh and enjoy telling people about how weird it all looks and came together. If you have any knowledge of these cultures, it only becomes more hilarious.
